For its fourth edition, the Cinémaplanète festival offers a fine panel of 21 films on the theme of ecology to discover. Skimming that turned out to be difficult for the selection committee, with nearly 250 films applying to participate in the festival. A total of twelve feature films, three medium-length films and six short films will be screened throughout the festival. All in the running for the prestigious Aquablier, Théodore Monod and Noé-Noah awards.
Among this selection, spectators will find the documentary dedicated to the fight of the young climate activist Greta Thunberg, I Am Greta by Nathan Grossman. The documentary Once you know by French director Emmanuel Cappellin who questions the climate emergency with the words of scientists. But also Arica, a documentary on the case of toxic waste of the mining company Boliden which contaminated the inhabitants of a small Chilean town.
More original, the documentary Lung green and red carpet follows the crazy project of director Luc Marescot who intends to make an ecological thriller with Léonard DiCaprio to save the tropical forests, with the participation of Nicolas Hulot, Claude Lelouch, Édouard Baer, Juliette Binoche, in others.
The festival with its great diversity of formats on offer strives to reach the widest possible audience. “We chose the cinemas so that the general public come to watch, listen and participate, that’s our plus here at the festival level”, says Marie-Anne Isler-Béguin, president of the Cinémaplanète festival. The spectators will be able to benefit from the presence of the youtubers Friend of lobbies, The Green Bias and Share It’s Nice, invited to talk about their content dedicated to environmental issues on the platform.
Cinémaplanète opens just a few days after the close of COP26 and its mixed results, deemed disappointing. One more reason to continue to “to admire and appreciate ” the environment “to enforce it“, assures the philosopher and naturalist Yves Paccalet, president of the jury.
