New Year’s Eve is placed under high surveillance, 127,000 police and gendarmes ensure the safety of the French. Tonight, in addition to the usual measures, they will have to enforce the instructions imposed by the health crisis. Claire Peyrot, journalist at France Télévisions, takes stock of the situation in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin).
The prefect of Bas-Rhin, Josiane Chevalier, announced a few days ago that a substantial device would be put in place on New Year’s Eve to avoid any type of overflow. “Minors are no longer allowed to be in the street if they are not accompanied by an adult with parental authority. The measure is valid for Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), but also for six neighboring municipalities”, report Claire Peyrot, journalist at France Télévisions in duplex from Strasbourg.
Josiane Chevalier took this decree following the incidents of the last New Years Eve. “The authorities noticed that the perpetrators of the vehicle fires were mostly between 12 and 16 years old. The state services want to identify them and especially prevent them from committing these crimes. Yesterday, even before Christmas Eve, five minors were arrested while trying to start a fire “, adds the journalist from France Télévisions.
