Several had to cancel their New Year’s Eve after the announcement of the new sanitary measures. Groups of six, all are forced to restrict themselves to their family bubble.

Thus Karine Cloutier will spend the vigil alone in her accommodation in Montreal. Not the dream evening, but for Ms. Cloutier it will still be easier than last year.

“Last year, it was a lot tougher! My partner was on the other side of the borders, the borders were closed, I had moved my mother to a CHSLD, ”she explains.

“This year it’s just, ‘ok, what can we do to make it more enjoyable, more joyful?’ I’m going to call my mom at supper time and that’s it. “

While Quebecers are going to celebrate 2022 at home, that doesn’t prevent them from spicing up the evening with a bottle of wine or bubbles, or even a hearty meal.

“We are making small provisions for the next few days,” said a citizen met by TVA Nouvelles.

“A nice bottle of bubbles that just came in today, so I’m coming to get it. I’m going alone with my girlfriend today, ”adds another.

While many demonstrate resilience, psychologists are still worried about the mental health of Quebecers.

“We are very worried. It is certain that the return of the measures will have a major impact on mental health, ”believes psychologist Karine Gauthier.

In such times, she recommends having fun.

“It would be, as much as possible, to do something special, even if you don’t really want to. It could be ordering food or making yourself something you really like. ”
