The southern Great Plains in the United States are once again affected by tornadoes. Sometimes more than 50 episodes are recorded in a day.

In the stormy Texas sky, a huge swirl of wind and debris. Friday May 3, a powerful tornado passed through several villages, devastating around thirty homes in its path. In a house reduced to a pile of debris, all four members of the family survived. They are only slightly injured.

Tornado season

For the past week, the United States has been facing dozens of tornadoes. Last weekend in Iowa, gusts pulverized hangars. On a road in Nebraska, a truck found itself blown away by the force of the wind. In total, in the center and south of the country, more than a hundred tornadoes appeared in a few days. A violent episode but not unprecedented. “In general, tornado season runs from March to June. Tornadoes are concentrated over just a few days. We sometimes have 300 tornadoes on a single day”, explains Pierre Huat, Weather Solutions forecaster. Since the start of the year, the United States has recorded 449 tornadoes.
