A new strike is avoided for 800 employees of the SAQ.

An agreement in principle for the renewal of the collective agreement was reached early this morning between the management of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) and the union of 800 warehouse and branch supply employees.

The local of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the FTQ, confirmed the information. The tentative agreement was reached at 4:30 a.m., half an hour before the end of the truce.

The union had indeed suspended its strike, last week, until Monday morning 5 am. He wanted to give the negotiation a chance.

In an interview Monday, the CUPE union advisor assigned to the file, Michel Gratton, said that the tentative agreement will be recommended to members. They will be called upon to vote, he hopes, in the next seven or eight days.

He did not want to reveal the content of the agreement in principle, preferring to keep the first for his members, as is usually the case in such circumstances.

Among the issues in dispute were wages, occupational health and safety issues and overtime.
