A new start of fire in the Double forest in the Dordogne quickly brought under control by the firefighters

Friday Saturday Sunday. Almost every day a new outbreak of fire is declared in the Double forest. This Sunday, September 11, the firefighters quickly intervened to drown the flames that destroyed 300 square meters of vegetation near the place called Le Brouillet, in the woods north of Ménestérol. The fire was extinguished in just over an hour, according to the gendarmes.

According to the mayor of the town, Rozenn Rouiller, a start of fire has already been reported the day before 500 meters away, further east. On Friday, three fire starts were reported a few minutes apart, again in the immediate area, at Petit Brouillet, and at Chante-Alouette in the neighboring town of Eygurande-et-Gardedeuilh.

The same area as the fire that burned 17 hectares on Friday evening

One of these departures burned 17 hectares of fire and mobilized a hundred firefighters, a Dash plane and a water bomber helicopter. The sappers even had to spend the night and part of the day on Saturday on the spot.

The gendarmerie moves systematically to investigate these fires, as long as they are unexplained. According to the Périgueux prosecutor’s office, out of around thirty fires detected in the Double between mid-July and the end of August, a criminal origin was suspected for at least half.
