A new road to facilitate access to the Nord Deux-Sèvres hospital from Thouarsais

18 minutesthis is the estimated travel time between Thouars and the CHNDS of Faye-l’Abbesse by the Department of Deux-Sèvres thanks to a new road inaugurated this Wednesday, July 13, 2022. It is a 4.2 kilometersaccessible from the north on the RD 938 ter near Noirterre.

“I had the opportunity to borrow it as chairman of the supervisory board of the hospital center 15 days ago. We save between 10 minutes and a quarter of an hour. It’s really precious to go to a hospital. It is also comfort and safety for people”rejoices Bernard Paineau, mayor of Thouars and president of the community of communes of Thouarsais.

Ambulance services appreciate having this road

An axis which opens four years after the new Faye-l’Abbesse hospital due to administrative constraints. “The land development commission, which manages all the properties, took an administrative decision that did not allow the Department to acquire the plots immediately and to be able to start the work immediately. We had three years of mandatory and incompressible period”explains Philippe Brémond, vice-president of the Department of Deux-Sèvres in charge of mobility.

Other constraint: the environment. “We are in a sector of wetlands, ponds, fauna, flora, protected species so we had to put a lot of elements related to environmental clauses”continues the chosen one.

Traffic is currently 500 vehicles per day but Philippe Brémond expects this figure to increase. “In any case, for the moment we have rather good feedback, in particular from the ambulance services who appreciate having this road system very comfortable to use”.

This project required ten months of work. It represents an investment of 6.5 million euros for the Department.
