In Lyon (Rhône), the Baria-Up program will monitor obese patients who are going to have stomach surgery. It aims to better support them in this step.
Marina Dupré is obese, but will undergo surgery to reduce her stomach. She hopes to gain mobility. She is one of the first three patients of the Baria-Up program, launched in Lyon (Rhône). For five years, this program will monitor patients. “Normally, a person who is going to have surgery for obesity in bariatric surgery, they must be followed for at least six months”explains Géraldine Guiget, nutritionist at the Les Lilas Bleus clinic.
This support program is fully funded by the Health Insurance. Without follow-up, many operated patients regain weight within two years after the operation. “There is a year of honeymoon (…) where there is a weight loss which will be massive (…), but that is when it goes well”, explains Bérénice Segrestin, endocrinologist. This program is also deployed in Lille (Nord) and Toulouse (Haute-Garonne).
