Kensington Palace has released a never-before-seen photo of Elizabeth II who would have celebrated her 97th birthday on April 21.

The snap was taken last summer by Kate Middleton at Balmoral Castle in Scotland where the late Queen loved to spend time.
We can see Elizabeth II surrounded by two of her grandchildren, Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.
His great-grandchildren, Lena Tindall, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Isla Phillips, Prince Louis, Mia Tindall, Lucas Tindall and Savannah Phillips are also present.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8. His son, Charles III, will be officially crowned king on May 6.
