A new day of mobilization takes place in Tarn, Saturday June 8, against the A69 motorway project. Several thousand people are expected according to the organizers, while all gatherings have been banned for fear of violence.

There were more than 2,000 on the morning of Saturday June 8. Activists have continued to gather in Tarn since Friday, on private land located near the route of the A69 motorway. The demonstration, banned by Gérald Darmanin, was maintained by the opponents. “We’ve been waiting for months, and months we’ve been preparing for a huge repression. What we want to denounce is that we are not on the side of violence“, confides Gingembre, from the collective “The way is free”.

Law enforcement is everywhere. More than 1,000 police officers and gendarmes check identities and search safes. The village of Puylaurens (Tarn) remains peaceful. Traders have closed their shops, but without much concern. The prefect of Tarn warned: if the activists leave the land they occupy, the police will be forced to react. For prevention, 200 construction machines were stored and placed under close surveillance. According to the prefecture, around 300 black blocs would be infiltrated in the procession, which is about to start.
