A new label, “Origin’Info”, will be affixed to processed food products to indicate the exact origin of the ingredients. However, it will be optional.
Prepared meals, candies, sodas and even pet food: these processed products will soon feature a new logo, “Origin’Info”. In a cartridge, the manufacturer must indicate the three main agricultural materials and their country of origin. The initiative does not appeal to all consumers. “As a student, I look at the price, what is the cheapest”confides a young girl.
The origin of the products may be directly affixed to the packaging or indicated on the internet, optionally. The approach is insufficient for consumer associations. “It will obviously be on a voluntary basis, so it will not be everywhere,” already deplored Camille Dorioz, the director of Footwatch campaigns, in March. The logo should hit shelves in summer 2024.
