A logo level, Origin’info, will allow you to know the composition and origin of three ingredients of a processed product. The announced objective is to offer more transparency. But what is it in reality?

A new label will appear on the labels of prepared products. “Origin’Info” will specify the origin of the three main ingredients. In front of a hypermarket, opinions are divided. “I find that very good, because it’s true that we are poorly informed on this”confides one man, while another believes that “that’s too many labels”. 80 brands have already chosen to join.

For consumer associations, this step towards greater transparency does not go far enough. “Manufacturers can very well decide to only partially display it for certain products which have an interesting display in terms of the French origin of the ingredients, and on the other hand total opacity on certain products would have very diverse origins”, estimates Olivier Andrault, project manager at UFC-Que Choisir. Consumers will discover the new label this summer in major retailers. 10,000 products should be affected by the end of the year.
