The cultural center project that Laval was cherishing for its city center has found its foundation. The Minister of Culture, Mathieu Lacombe, announced Friday morning financial assistance of $44 million, which will allow the City to begin construction of its cultural center in the Montmorency sector. There will be a library – a tenth in Laval – and places for creation and dissemination.
“A signature project” for the city center, according to the mayor of Laval, Stéphane Boyer, this cultural center was one of the flagship places hoped for in the Cultural Development Plan of the city of Laval 2019-2023. According to this plan, it will accommodate a central library, which would be added to the nine current libraries in the area.
A center for artistic and professional creation will be adjoined, also focused on the dissemination and access to information.
“Thanks to this investment, Laval’s cultural life will be transformed,” the minister indicated in a press release. “The presence of this infrastructure in the heart of downtown Laval will create both an artistic and economic synergy that will be beneficial for the entire metropolitan area. »
