Night clubs and discos had already experienced a first period of closure since December 10, following the exponential proliferation of the new Omicron variant. But with the announcements made by Prime Minister Jean Castex on Monday, December 27, it was a three-week extension that was served on them, from Monday, January 3.
After already 16 long months of crisis, nightclubs are once again in the sights of the government, which has implemented new support measures since December 20.
But for Julien Beaufils, manager of the Cap Club nightclub in Aubière (Puy -de-Dôme), these new closure measures are unfair, given the numerous efforts made to control the sanitary pass at the entrance to the night establishments.
In a holiday season which still represents nearly a quarter of the annual figure, it is a new blow to a profession which has nearly 1,200 establishments across France. That is 400 less than before the start of the health crisis in March 2020.
