To survive, some have decided to eat the corpses of their friends. The story is the subject of a new adaptation on Netflix.
On October 13, 1972, a plane carrying a rugby team crashed in the Andes Mountains. The shock is terrible, half of the passengers die instantly. The 16 survivors live a 72-day nightmare. In these hostile lands, the temperature can drop below -40°C.
A “pact” to live
Wounded, shocked and without food, the survivors will take the extreme decision of eating the bodies of their friends. This true story shook the world. The survivors have always assumed responsibility. “We made this pact together, to give our flesh if we died so that others could continue to live“, explain Nando Paradosurvivor of the crash. Juan Antonio Bayonathe director, treats the subject with modesty. “What interested me in this story was the intimate, the spiritual rather than the spectacular“, he explains.
