17 people were arrested and placed in police custody, suspected of belonging to a Paris metro theft network, franceinfo learned from the Paris prosecutor’s office on Thursday June 13, confirming information from Le Parisien. The dismantling of this network comes a few weeks before the start of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. These people are suspected of having attacked “in particular to the detriment of victims who are foreign or identified as such, and therefore unable to call for help or file a complaint”specifies the Paris prosecutor’s office.

These people were taken into custody for “organized gang theft, organized gang fraud, criminal conspiracy with a view to committing a crime (that of organized gang theft)”indicates the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Nine people were presented, Thursday, June 13, to an investigating judge with a view to being indicted. “Contrary to the prosecution’s requests for provisional detention, the investigating judge has not yet requested provisional detention. It will be up to the judge of freedoms and detention to rule”specifies the prosecution.

The custody of the eight other people continues. The investigation is being carried out by the SDLII (sub-directorate for the fight against irregular immigration) and the SRT (Regional Transport Security).
