Five people were arrested on Tuesday January 25 and Wednesday January 26 by the gendarmes in the Poitiers and Lyon sectors, as part of an investigation into the trafficking of 62,000 false health passes, the national gendarmerie said in a press release. Three of the defendants, aged 22 to 29, are suspected of being computer hackers and of having usurped the identity of 35 doctors throughout France to create fraudulent vaccination certificates. They then resold them directly to their beneficiaries or to accomplices acting as resellers.
The investigation is being carried out jointly by the gendarmes of the Poitiers research section, the Central Office for the fight against damage to the environment and public health (Oclaesp) and the Command of the gendarmerie in cyberspace (Comcybergend ) under the direction of an investigating judge from the cybercrime division of the Paris court.
The Paris public prosecutor’s office indicates that this judicial investigation has been open since December 15, 2021 in this file, for “fraudulent access and maintenance in an automated data processing system”, “data instruction” in such a system, “false” and “use of false administrative documents”, “possession of false administrative documents”, “aggravated money laundering” and “criminal association”.
