Correctional authorities say a murderer who escaped from a federal penitentiary in Laval more than four years ago was recaptured this week.
Denis Bégin had escaped on February 15, 2019 from a minimum security unit of the Federal Training Center, formerly known as Montée-Saint-François Institution.
When he escaped, Bégin, now 62, was serving a life sentence for a murder committed in Montreal 30 years ago, in 1993.
Correctional Service Canada said Bégin was recaptured Monday by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) after a 51-month run.
Jean-Pierre Brabant, of the SPVM, indicated that Bégin’s arrest was not linked to his escape, without giving further details.
Bégin was on a list of nine most wanted criminals in Quebec.
