A municipal policeman, in his thirties, received a punch in the face this Friday morning in Tours around 2:30 a.m. when he intervened for a case of nocturnal noise. Fortunately, the injuries are superficial.
It was during a patrol in rue de Bordeaux that the policeman was struck. The perpetrator, in his fifties, alcoholic in addition, was arrested and placed in police custody for violence against a person holding public authority.
Municipal police are not punching bags
The president of the National Union of Public Security strongly condemns this violence, which is becoming more and more commonplace. He adds that even if the officer does not suffer serious injuries, he hopes that justice will be particularly severe with regard to the perpetrator, “French municipal police are not punching bags, they already do a very difficult job, with not always the necessary means and the consideration that they are entitled to claim or to hope for”.
