While waiting to neutralize next Friday the English bomb of 250 kg discovered on a private site in Royan, the deminers of La Rochelle will intervene this Tuesday on another explosive device dating from the second world war. It is less voluminous but remains potentially dangerous. It is a mortar shell brought to the surface during a magnet fishing practiced last Sunday near the chain ferry on the banks of the Charente.
If magnet fishing is an activity more and more practiced, especially on the banks of the Charente, it sometimes reserves funny surprises and the adrenaline can quickly rise. From there to getting a good scare, there is only one step that a family involuntarily crossed Sunday in the middle of the morning near the chain ferry. Well stuck to their magnet, a mortar shell.
The gendarmes of Saint-Porchaire were warned, as were the mayor of Dompierre-sur-Charente, Gaby Touzinaud, and his first deputy. A security perimeter has been set up on the discovery site.
Reached by telephone, the Dompierrois councilor, who took photos of the magnetic shell, confirmed to France Bleu La Rochelle that the explosive device was going to be taken care of this Tuesday at 10 a.m. by the deminers of La Rochelle. After having assessed its dangerousness thanks to the photos of the mayor, the La Rochelle deminers wish to transport the machine to a secure place to neutralize it.
