(Montreal) A Montrealer faces a charge of inciting hatred in connection with “violent” anti-Semitic remarks published on social networks, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Thursday.
The RCMP says Houssem Hammami, 37, will appear at the Montreal courthouse on January 30.
The federal police indicated on Thursday on the X platform that Mr. Hammami had published “violent” anti-Semitic remarks on social networks.
The denunciation document indicates that these comments were published between October 14 and October 1er November last year and targeted “an identifiable group”.
The Criminal Code prohibits public communication that “incites hatred against an identifiable group, when such incitement is likely to result in a breach of the peace.”
The Quebec division of the RCMP did not respond to a request for additional information on this matter.
