The town of La Laigne (Charente-Maritime), affected by an earthquake in mid-June, must give up the sixth edition of its festival “L’Horizon fait le mur”, reports France Bleu La Rochelle on Monday evening. The organizers are forced to cancel the holding of this music festival, initially scheduled for July 29 and 30, due to a lack of budget to secure the event. “It is with a heavy heart that we write to you today…“, explain the organizers before adding: “Following the earthquake, recent aftershocks, macabre tourism, and the additional cost to ensure the safety of the village and the inhabitants, the festival cannot be maintained.“. The additional costs amount to approximately 30,000 euros.

Among the artists who were to perform during this festival: Arthur H, Stéphan Eicher or even Sarah McCoy. Between 1,500 and 2,000 people had already bought their ticket for the festival. They now have several solutions: donate the amount of the ticket to the support fund for residents, keep the ticket to attend the opening of the Horizon season on September 16 in La Rochelle, or be reimbursed.

On June 16, an earthquake with a magnitude between 5.3 and 5.8 was felt in western France. The epicenter of the earthquake was between La Rochelle and Niort, near the town of La Laigne where nearly 200 people had to be relocated.
