A meteorite lights up the sky

The meteorite passed through the sky of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), and at the same time, a webcam recorded it near Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes). A motorist was even lucky enough to film it. It is a natural and harmless phenomenon. About 20,000 tons of them fall per year. Their fall is more visible at night, since the bright trails are always brief, just a few seconds. Three years ago, it was in Brittany.

While the phenomenon arouses the admiration of Internet users, it is not so rare. Just a few days ago, a meteorite passed through the Turkish sky. Most of these meteorites measure a few millimeters to a few centimeters. Sometimes, fragments can be found on the ground, as in Normandy. Others are much larger, like the one that fell in Russia in 2009, which caused serious damage.
