a meeting for adults (and children) to discover a vibrant jazz scene, this weekend in Fontenay-sous-Bois

Grouped together within the Pégazz & l’Hélicon collective, five groups (plus their guests, including Leïla Martial) and two solo musicians will perform from Friday evening, and throughout the weekend, at the Comptoir de Fontenay-sous- Bois, in Val-de-Marne.

From this Friday, October 13 in the evening, until Sunday, October 15, the contemporary music collective Pégazz et l’Hélicon is organizing the 3rd edition of its Pégazz Festival, an event bursting with diverse aesthetics, and which illustrates the creativity of the French jazz scene. After the New Morning (2021) and the Studio de l’Ermitage (2022) in Paris, the event is this time held in the eastern suburbs of the capital, in Fontenay-sous-Bois (Val-de-Marne), at the Comptoir , Halle Roublot.

On the program, the major groups Les Rugissants by Grégoire Letouvet and ALE by Paul Jarret, the trio Sweet Dog On The Moon – transformed into a quintet for a creation – by Julien Soro, the latter also being on the bill with the duo Schwab Soro. There is also the Gonam City tandem with a promising concert for young audiences, and two solo musicians, Linda Oláh Solo (vocals and electro) and Delphine Deau (prepared piano). Finally, a surprise concert, completely improvised, is also on the menu. Review of programming.

The Les Rugissants ensemble. Guest: Leïla Martial

Led by the pianist and composer Grégoire Letouvet, the Les Rugissants ensemble is made up of seven blowers, a double bass and a drums. They play modern jazz with influences from classical and contemporary music. Accustomed to playing with vocalists, the group here invites one of the most gifted and creative singers on the current jazz scene: the virtuoso Leïla Martial. Grégoire Letouvet met her within the National Jazz Orchestra, when he arranged the piece she had written for the album Rituals of the NJO, Woman offence.
Friday October 13, 9 p.m.

The ALE set

ALE, which stands for Acoustic Large Ensemble, is the latest musical project from guitarist and composer Paul Jarret. Shaped during a residency at the Comptoir de Fontenay, it will be officially premiered at the Pégazz Festival. The band is made up of fourteen musicians without sound, who play in a circle with the audience spread around them. Paul Jarret, 38 years old, 2019 winner of Talents Adami Jazz, who has multiplied ambitious artistic projects in recent years, as leader or co-leader (Pj5, Ghost Songs, EMMA…), ventures towards an exciting new sound exploration.

Sweet Dog On The Moon. Guests: Catherine Delaunay and Emilie Lesbros

Another creation of the Pégazz Festival, that of the Sweet Dog On The Moon project composed of three pillars of improvised music: the guitarist Paul Jarret, already programmed with his ALE, the saxophonist Julien Soro (ONJ, Players, Ping Machine, Schwab Soro, Big Four …) and drummer Ariel Tessier (pAn-G, Pj5, Players, House of Echo…). Originally imagined as an improvisation laboratory, the Sweet Dog trio, which released an astonishing album in 2020, has created a sound that it wishes to bring into dialogue with two brilliant guests: the clarinetist Catherine Delaunay and the singer Emilie Lesbros.
Saturday October 14, 8:30 p.m.

Schwab Soro

An essential tandem of the Pégazz & l’Hélicon collective, Schwab Soro brings together double bassist Raphaël Schwab and saxophonist Julien Soro, whom we met in the early days of their pair, in 2014. Since then, the two musicians (members of the ONJ, former members of Ping Machine…) continue their lively musical dialogue put into colorful and mischievous drawings, with talent, by the double bassist’s brother, Quentin Schwab. The illustrator will be present at the Halle Roublot for a performance presented as a “drawn concert”…
Sunday October 15, 5:15 p.m.

Gonam City For Kids (for young audiences)

Here is another duo as endearing as it is virtuoso, but also full of deadpan humor. Gonam City combines the formidable pianist Marc Benham with trumpeter Quentin Ghomari (Papanosh, Les Vibrants Défricheurs, ONJ, Ping Machine…). We have no doubt that they will do wonders in this concert for young audiences (from 5 years old).
Sunday October 15, 3:30 p.m. Concert followed by a snack.

Delphine Deau

Pianist Delphine Deau offers a creation for piano prepared from works by the British composer John Dowland (1563-1626). We can’t wait to discover what the musician has in store for us, who has masterfully directed the Nefertiti Quartet for ten years, winner of 2019 Jazz Migration (famous support system for young jazz upstarts).
Sunday October 15, 6 p.m.

Linda Oláh

Born in Stockholm, the singer Linda Oláh, who has been heard in recent years alongside the ONJ or nOx.3 among others, is not a member of the Pégazz collective, but she is a guest for a solo concert to open the festival. She offers a unique universe combining voice and electro, writing and improvisation, to be discovered.
