A marten was ultimately the source of suspicions of sabotage in the fan zone of the Château de Vincennes, franceinfo learned on Sunday, August 4, from the Paris prosecutor’s office. An investigation had been opened after the discovery of severed cables in the fan zone of the Château de Vincennes. It was closed without further action after investigators concluded that the damage had been caused by an animal.

The damage was caused on Tuesday around 1am, according to a source close to the investigation. The marten had attacked fibre optic cables that allow the broadcasting of the Paris Olympic Games events in the fan zone, near the castle moat. Repaired that very morning, the cables were damaged again in several places the following night around 1am.

The site of the Château de Vincennes is protected by a surveillance system, no alarm was triggered.
