Paris 2024 Olympics: a mandatory QR code to travel in the capital

A QR code will once again be necessary to move around the security perimeter areas of the Paris Olympics this summer.
It will make its comeback in less than 108 days: the QR code will become compulsory again, four years after the first confinement, for the Olympic Games this summer. All residents close to Olympic sites are affected, sometimes to their great surprise. At the foot of the Eiffel Tower, a local resident is amazed: “I didn’t know, it reminds me of health passes”, he said. A local resident judges this measure “necessary” because she believes that “It’s going to be a mess otherwise.”
A rigorous security system
One week before July 26, the date of the opening ceremony, a gigantic security perimeter will be set up. Some 45,000 police and gendarmes will be deployed. To reach their accommodation around the banks of the Seine, or on board a barge, Parisians will have to show their credentials. Because from mid-July, any motorized passage within the Olympic security perimeter, in the heart of the capital, will be regulated. In the red zones, closest to the Seine, it will even be prohibited, except for residents and their guests, who will have to present QR code and identity document. Taxis and delivery people will also be affected.
