a man who was driving a stolen van was shot dead by a police officer

A man died on Saturday after being shot by a police officer in Sevran. The 33-year-old victim was injured by a bullet during a check carried out by the BAC (Anti-Crime Brigade) while he was traveling in a stolen vehicle, the Bobigny prosecutor’s office told France Bleu Paris.

The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) was seized to determine the circumstances of the accident. The facts took place around 12:30 p.m. during a police check. Law enforcement suspects the driver of being behind the wheel of a stolen van. The man then tries to flee and it is at this moment that one of the police officers fires, in circumstances which remain to be determined.

The motorist nevertheless continued his journey for “a few hundred meters”, before ending his race by hitting parked cars, said the prosecution. The man was taken to hospital in very serious condition before succumbing to his injuries in the evening.

In a press release, the mayor of Sevran, Stéphane Blanchet, indicates that he immediately opened a crisis unit. “The pain is great, the inhabitants of his neighborhood are in shock”. Pending the results of the investigation, “it is essential that we keep our calm”, continues the chosen one, “for everyone’s safety”.
