Emergency services were called shortly before 5 a.m. for a fire in a building above a restaurant. Seeing that a resident was missing, the firefighters went to look for him, broke down the door of his apartment and fell on this man, threatening, armed with a rifle. The Raid was then requested.
Finally, part of the building collapsed and the madman died in the rubble of the house, said the public prosecutor.
Tires were found in the stairwell of the building, according to the mayor of the town, Jean-François Irigoyen, joined by France Bleu Pays Basque, suggesting an arson attack. The public prosecutor will give a press briefing at 3 p.m.
