A 67-year-old man was indicted and then remanded in custody on Thursday February 16 for the murder of his 47-year-old wife, France Bleu Hérault reported on Friday. He is suspected of having made up the murder as a suicide, even if this last hypothesis is not completely ruled out.
The woman had been found hanged with a dog leash at their home in Montpellier on January 25, but an autopsy later revealed that the marks on her neck were more consistent with strangulation. Only the husband describes his companion as depressed and suicidal, while those around him assure us that this suicide does not resemble him.
Finally, the victim had a lover who assured investigators that the suspect was aware of their affair. He explains that his mistress was under the influence of her husband, described as cold and manipulative. The suspect denies the facts and claims not to have been aware of this extramarital relationship.
