It’s expensive per bottle. A man was sentenced to three years in prison for the theft of 43 pallets of champagne from the premises of a company in Bonneuil-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne), for damage estimated at 300,000 euros. This was announced on Saturday September 24 by the Créteil prosecutor’s office contacted by AFP.

The robbery took place on June 16. “Three men broke into a warehouse and loaded, using a handling device, 43 pallets of champagne into a semi-trailer truck”, says the prosecution. The suspects had sought to erase their passage on the scene by spraying fire extinguisher powder. Except that traces left on this extinguisher made it possible to identify “a genetic profile”explains the prosecution.

The suspect is “a 31-year-old man from Seine-Saint-Denis, already convicted several times for violence and traffic violations”, notes the prosecution. He admitted the facts during the immediate appearance hearing on Thursday, September 22, while refusing “to designate its co-authors for fear of reprisals”. He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, including one year suspended probation for two years, accompanied by a warrant of committal.
