A 27-year-old man was shot and killed in the Lachine borough of Montreal on Wednesday evening when an assailant opened fire in his direction on a basketball court.
The murder, which is on the 17the to occur this year on the island of Montreal, occurred around 7:30 p.m. on a basketball court on Duff Court Street, near Esther-Blondin Street.
“According to initial information, the victim was on a basketball court with other people, and suddenly, a suspect arrived and fired in the direction of the victim, then fled on foot before the arrival of the police. police officers,” explained officer Caroline Chèvrefils, who is spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).
Injured in the “upper body” after being hit by at least one projectile, the 27-year-old man was transported to a hospital center, where he finally succumbed to his injuries.
Early Thursday morning, the SPVM reported no arrests in this case, but its major crimes section continued its investigation to find the suspect.
“The canine unit was requested to the scene to search for evidence. Checks will be made on possible surveillance cameras located near the premises. Witnesses to the event were met by the police,” mentioned Officer Chèvrefils.
