A 45-year-old resident of Douai has been in police custody since Tuesday afternoon for breaking into Jean-Jaurès elementary schooland pretending to be a teacher.
The public prosecutor of Douai speaks of “matters of fact“: that morning, the team was waiting for a replacement. The man introduced himself, they let him in, thinking that he was the teacher. He was assigned to a class of CM1-CM2and begins to teach.
According to the rectorate of the Lille Academy, it only lasted half an hour. But according to the first elements of the investigation he had time to do a dictation, which the students judged “weird“, incomprehensible, too fast. During recess, the man caused some discomfortstaring fixedly at the students, he would also have stolen sheets belonging to the children, to put them in his bag.
Already sentenced for acts of a sexual nature
The alert was given, but the fake teacher had fled. Quickly identified, he was arrested the same afternoon, and his profile is worrying : he was condemned several times, “for acts of a sexual nature“, in the words of the prosecutor. Justice does not specify whether the victims were minors. He hadn’t been talked about for 10 years.
Currently in custodyhe did not contest the charges against him.
Vigilance message
A message of vigilance was sent to all the directors of the district of Douai, specifies the rectorate. A crisis unit was entrusted to the school psychologist “in order to assess the situation, reassure children and parents“.
