A man killed by a police officer in Île-des-Soeurs

A man who was “possibly in possession of a handgun” and who was walking near the intersection of boulevard René Lévesque and rue Berlioz, in Île-des-Soeurs, allegedly pointed his gun in the direction of a policeman. The police officer would then have fired “at least one shot” in his direction, indicates the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI).

The BEI therefore opened an investigation on Saturday afternoon into the circumstances of this intervention involving the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). A large police deployment was also observed on the island, especially around René Lévesque Boulevard.

It was around 12:32 p.m. that the police would have been called to intervene in connection with this man. “Seriously injured, the man was transported to a hospital center where he was declared dead,” adds the BEI.

More details will follow.
