A man died on Thursday after being hit by a bull in Calvisson (Gard) during an abrivado, France Bleu Gard Lozère reported on Friday, July 19. The accident occurred early Tuesday evening during a bull run for the launch of the votive festivals of this village located near Nîmes.

In a video taken by a witness, the victim can be seen positioned on the sidewalk waiting for the bull and the guards to arrive. The bull then left the guards’ mesh and went onto the sidewalk, hitting the man who was trying to escape. According to witnesses interviewed by France Bleu Gard Lozère, he had gone behind the security barriers.

In cardiac arrest, the man was resuscitated by emergency services before being transported to the Nîmes University Hospital and placed in an artificial coma. But he did not survive his injuries. The votive festivals and the abrivades of Calvisson are maintained.
