a man from Mayenne sentenced to a 4-month suspended prison sentence for domestic violence

A 27-year-old man from Mayenne sentenced to a four-month suspended prison sentence this Tuesday by the correctional court of Laval, in Mayenne, after domestic violence against partner on November 16, 2021 in Laval. His license is also suspended for six months for driving under the influence of alcohol after the argument that evening. His criminal record bears two mentions but for minor facts. During the hearing on Tuesday, he acknowledged the facts and apologized. The facts occurred after yet another dispute over alcohol.

“She started it”

That evening, the accused was particularly drunk and has a blood alcohol level of 1.2g per literhe finds his girlfriend in the bedroom, on her laptop. Jealous, he gets angry and an argument breaks out. There is an exchange of blows, telling her that he was holding her wrists to restrain her and protect himself. She says he insults her, hits her, grabs a television antenna cable and puts it around his neck to strangle him. “It is not me”replies the accused, “I don’t remember this cable”.

“I’ll hang you, you’ll see what it does”says the victim in his deposition, an assertion he refutes. “She started it anyway”he says. “But you think it’s a classic method of settling problems”asks the president, “but she started it”repeats the defendant.

Shots that date from a few days before the dispute

The medical examiner did not find no sore neck of the victim and “this cable was still hanging on the wall when the investigators arrived”, argues the defendant’s lawyer. A defendant who had taken his car after the argument, still alcoholic and who was arrested in the process by the gendarmes. “She lied about some beatings she received”continues the defendant’s lawyer, “the medical examiner attests to blows dating from November 12 and not November 16, so it is established that she lied”. No ITT day (temporary interruption of work) had then been prescribed. “It is difficult to reconstruct what is happening in this couple”, says the prosecutor in her submissions. A couple who are now separated.
