This nine-year period of incarceration was a joint suggestion by the Crown and defense counsel. Judge Leclerc of the Court of Quebec ratified it Monday morning at the Joliette courthouse.
The Lanaudière man, now 59 years old, faced several charges. Last January, he chose to plead guilty to counts of sexual interference, incitement to sexual contact and sexual assault.
Victim statements were read out on Monday morning during sentencing submissions.
Everything was revealed when the little girl from the DPJ, who was then 11 years old, confided in her teacher after class. The latter also came to testify in the court room on Monday, telling the judge that “nothing in her teaching career had prepared her for this. » The child was abused for four years, starting at the age of seven.
“I would have liked to take some of his suffering,” said the teacher. She welcomed the child into her home, after taking steps with youth protection services.
The girl was not able to tell the court the impact of the attacks, said Crown prosecutor M.e Melissa Plante.
“The court would like to have the tools to put back in place what was broken, what you broke,” he said to Alain Lavallée, who was standing in front of him in the court room.
The crime is “repugnant to me and to society,” he added. Society “had placed its trust in you and you broke everything. »
Wearily, he added that “sexual assault cases are [son] daily. »
“It’s now that we only do that. All my colleagues talk to me about it. I don’t know what’s going on in the minds of men, especially our young men. This will have to be resolved,” said Judge Leclerc.
