A man lost his life in the St. Lawrence River on Saturday evening, in the L’Ange-Gardien area, near Quebec City.
The local firefighters were called shortly before 10 p.m. concerning a person in difficulty on the waters of the river, along the Côte-de-Beaupré.

The 50-year-old who was traveling alone on his personal watercraft broke down and was therefore forced to swim back to shore.
“He asked for help from the surroundings and then decided to return to his machine, explains the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Stéphane Tremblay. He began to experience difficulties and finally drowned a few tens of meters from his boat.

The Coast Guard was called in to help find the missing man below the surface. He was found around 10:45 p.m. and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
According to the SQ, the man was not wearing a life jacket when his body was recovered.
