Around 7 p.m., two police officers opened fire on a Cours de Vincennes vehicle during a check, according to a police source. Three people were inside. From a close source, the police wanted to check the vehicle for a lack of insurance. According to Jérôme Jimenez, Unsa Police Ile-de-France delegate – guest of franceinfo on Friday October 14 – the three people fled in the vehicle and engaged in “a back alley and where they got stuck in the flow of traffic”. The police got out of their car to check the vehicle. “The two passengers fled on foot.” There was only “the driver in question”explains Jérôme Jimenez.
As required by regulation, “we freeze the situation” with arms, specifies the trade unionist, “We ask that the driver turn off his engine, get out of the vehicle.” The officials fired their weapon at the vehicle which was driving towards them as they were coming up to it. The driver then crashed into another vehicle. The man was hit by a bullet. Three shots were fired by the police, according to a source close to franceinfo.
The man died of his injuries, France Télévisions learned from a judicial source. According to this same source, an investigation is entrusted to the IGPN on the count of “intentional homicide by a person holding public authority”. Another investigation is entrusted to the 2nd DPJ on the count of “attempted murder of a person holding public authority”. The two police officers were placed in police custody, according to a source close to franceinfo, a classic procedure in this type of event.
