Around 6 a.m., Monday, November 8, in the parking lot of the Cannes police station (Alpes-Maritimes), a man attacked two police officers. The individual first pretended to ask for information from a first police officer, before stabbing him in the chest. He then rounded the vehicle to attack another. Other police officers were able to neutralize him. If the latter are unharmed thanks to their bulletproof vests, they remain very shocked.
“For the colleague who took the most stab wounds, who ended up on the ground, it’s pretty hard, she was in tears, but she holds the shock”, says Jean-Luc Bragato, deputy departmental secretary of the Unit-SGP Police Alpes-Maritimes union. The assailant, Lakhdar B., who “acted in the name of the prophet”, is an Algerian national who arrived in Europe through Italy in 2009-2010. In an irregular situation at the beginning, he obtained an Italian residence permit and arrived in France in 2016. His vital prognosis is engaged. The man was not known to the intelligence services. At this stage, the anti-terrorism prosecution has not yet been contacted.
