A man arrested and taken into custody after a fatal accident in Fourmies

A man was arrested and taken into custody after a road accident on Tuesday, October 26 in Fourmies (North).

Driving a van, he is suspected of having run over and killed a person who was traveling on foot, around 8:45 pm He had then fled. The victim has not yet been identified.

He also refused a traffic stop

The gendarmes, who were carrying out random roadside checks in the vicinity of Fourmies, checked the van shortly after the accident but the driver refused to stop. They were able to catch up with him to arrest him and place him in police custody around 10:30 p.m.

The man was alcoholic, known to the police and resides in the Fourmies area.

An investigation is opened by the prosecutor’s office in Avesnes-sur-Helpe for manslaughter and aggravated refusal to comply.
