A man was arrested after forcing a police roadblock and driving at high speed in the city center of Epinal (Vosges), Thursday July 13, during the July 14 festivities. According to the press release from the prosecutor, this forty-year-old was arrested around 10:30 p.m. for refusing to comply with endangering the lives of others and will be tried in immediate appearance by the Epinal criminal court on Monday.

“He repeatedly put several people in danger of death or serious injury on his journey, in particular many young children on this festive evening and municipal police officers by failing to hit them”explained Frédéric Nahon.

“No casualties are fortunately to be deplored.”

The individual, spotted by the police, refused to be checked, restarting his vehicle at high speed. After forcing the anti-ram devices and despite new orders to stop, he fled in the wrong direction, before being immobilized. He then fled on foot, then threw himself into the Moselle and took refuge under a bridge.

He was eventually arrested later. When he was placed in police custody for refusing to comply with endangering the lives of others, lack of a driver’s license and lack of insurance, he had a blood alcohol level above the limit.
