On April 27, traveling to the Château de Joux (Doubs) to pay tribute to Toussaint Louverture, Emmanuel Macron was expected by demonstrators with pans, opposed to the pension reform. Justice accuses a 23-year-old man of having, that day, fired a smoke bomb in the direction of the helicopter in which the President of the Republic was leaving the scene. He was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Friday June 16, the Paris prosecutor’s office said on Saturday, confirming information from the Parisian.

The suspect was indicted for “attempting to degrade or deteriorate property by a means dangerous to people, committed because of the status of person depositary of the public authority of its user”, specifies the prosecution. The investigation had also been opened, the day after the events, to “endangering the lives of others”but this charge was dismissed.

The young man’s lawyer told AFP that he had appealed his client’s detention on remand.
