The rush hour will be particularly difficult Monday morning, when a big winter storm is about to hit several sectors of Quebec, forcing the closure of schools on the first day of the return to class.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning, as 15 to 25 centimeters of snow are expected on the ground during the day Monday in Montreal, the Outaouais and the St. Lawrence Valley.
Strong winds and blowing snow will make visibility “near zero” in places, according to the federal agency’s warning.
In the more northern sectors, from Lanaudière to Charlevoix, via Mauricie, up to 35 centimeters of snow is expected with strong winds that can reach up to 70 km/h.
On the other hand, Témiscamingue and Estrie will be partially spared by the snowstorm, unlike Saguenay, Côte-Nord and Bas-Saint-Laurent.
Temperatures will be normal for the season.
Scheduled for Monday morning, the return to class has been postponed due to a winter storm.
The Montreal School Service Center (CSSDM), the Pointe-de-l’Île School Service Center (CSSPI), the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Service Center (CSSMB) and the English Montreal School Board have indicated that their establishments will be closed on Monday.
The CSSPI, which will also close its daycare service, has specified that Monday will be a pedagogical day replacing the pedagogical day of May 13.
Other schools will be closed, notably in Laval, Montérégie, Outaouais, and the Laurentians.
