After several weeks of respite, Quebecers must prepare to face winter with the arrival of a major storm which will hit the province in the middle of next week, according to an Environment Canada meteorologist.
Freezing rain, snow, or a mixture of both? While it is still difficult to predict what type of precipitation will hit Quebec, there is no doubt that a major system will hit the province on Wednesday, confirmed meteorologist Michèle Fleury.
“Some areas are expected to receive heavy snow further north in the province. For the south, it is still very uncertain if we are going to have a mixture of precipitation, perhaps snow or rain,” she indicated, specifying that there is a risk of having to deal with with freezing rain.
The cold sets in this weekend
Until then, you’ll have to be well covered to enjoy the good weather this weekend in Quebec, since the air will be particularly cold.
Indeed, residents of Greater Montreal were faced with a wind chill of -23 in the morning, before the air warmed up a bit to -11. Felt temperatures will be around -19 for Saturday.
With beautiful sunshine, the cold was even more striking near Quebec, where the wind chill reached -19 Friday afternoon and should be around -27 Saturday morning.
In general, the temperatures felt will oscillate between -14 and -27 for the south of the province in the Estrie, Centre-du-Québec, Mauricie, Lanaudière and Laurentides sectors.
“We are on seasonal normal at the moment,” recalled Ms. Fleury.
A little snow
Residents of Bas-Saint-Laurent will be able to see a few flakes falling in the corners of Rimouski and Gaspé with accumulations of 2 cm in places, or even a little blowing snow.
The same will apply to Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean, where a risk of frostbite is also reported for Saturday due to a wind chill of -30 in the morning, the federal agency alerted.
