A spectacular fire broke out on Sunday, September 25, at the end of the morning, in a warehouse in the Rungis market (Val-de-Marne). “Thirty machines are on site and a hundred firefighters are mobilized”reported a spokesperson for the Paris fire department. “The fire is almost under control, there are no victims and there is no risk of spreading.”

According to information from France Télévisions collected on the spot, the fire broke out in the warehouse of the Mandar company, located in the Rungis flower area. These fruit and vegetable semi-wholesalers deliver to restaurants, hotels and communities in Paris and have 300 employees.

The warehouse is completely destroyed, reports in a press release the president of the Rungis market, Stéphane Layani, who holds “to express all [sa] solidarity and [son] business support”. He adds that “The Rungis Market will resume tomorrow [lundi] his activities”.

Thick smoke was visible for several kilometers around, south of Paris, as evidenced by many photos and videos of Internet users.

On Twitter, firefighters advised to avoid “travel in this area” in order to facilitate “the rescue passage”.

The Rungis market is the largest fresh produce market in the world. At the end of June, a fire had already broken out in the industrial zone of the market without causing any injuries.
