A lynx walks near a primary school

A lynx came out of its natural habitat to take a stroll on Wednesday afternoon in the streets of Trois-Rivières, and as it found itself near a primary school, measures were put in place.

The superb animal was wandering not far from the École Jacques-Buteux school located on rue Maurice-L-Duplessis. A resident of Trois-Rivières living on rue de l’Esplanade even saw the lynx in his backyard.

As a precaution, the students remained in the school on Wednesday afternoon.

The school has asked parents whose children are walking to school to pick them up to ensure their safety.

The Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks said the lynx did not compromise the safety of students and staff.

So it’s an almost normal day at École Jacques-Buteux. The children were advised to avoid walking near the woodlot where the lynx was seen and to walk on the sidewalk.

The school team will provide increased supervision when students are away from school.

The lynx does not seek contact with humans, it rather tends to flee according to the Trois-Rivières police. His footprints suggest he returned to his natural habitat.

If citizens see it, they can contact the police.
