“There are a lot of hype effects but nothing that addresses the underlying problems”denounces Thursday April 18 on franceinfo Serge Hefez, psychiatrist and co-president of the parenting commission [commission d’experts chargée de conseiller le gouvernement en matière de parentalité]about Gabriel Attal’s speech on authority.

The Prime Minister promised Thursday a “surge of authority” and an “general mobilization” to respond to the“addiction to violence” of part of the youth. In particular, he proposes establishing community service for failing parents and sending children who “start to hang out with bad people.”

“I do not believe it”, said the co-chair of the parenting commission, relaunched at the beginning of the month by the government, about these announcements. The psychiatrist rather believes “an in-depth reflection on the entire system of protection of minors”. He underlines the need first of all to restore parental authority, it is a question of thinking about “how we will support parents and how we will help them so that this process of authority and protection can be put in place”. “Many parents are in difficulty at the moment”he notes.

Gabriel Attal announced an eight-week consultation in order to arrive at concrete measures. “I find it hard to believe that in eight weeks we can work miracles in a situation that has been deteriorating for years”answers Serge Hefez.
