a look back at the Women’s Tour de France by India Grangier

The first edition of the Tour de France Women finished at the top of the Super Planche des Belles Filles on Sunday July 31st. 24 teams and nearly 150 runners covered 1029 kilometers, divided into eight steps. All without a single day off. Among the runners India Grangier, 22, from Bazas. The young woman from Stade Charentais Charente-Maritime finished the 7th stage after the deadline. She was therefore unable to participate in the last stage of the Tour, which she spent encouraging the last of her team-mates still in the running, Séverine Éraud. Because the Tour is above all a great test of solidarity. “With the headsets and microphone, we talk to each other, we motivate each other throughout the event. When we see one in front, we tell it go, or when we see one behind, we tell it to come back up. Feel the presence of others close from us it pushes us.” The other fundamental support for the girls was the publicvery present on the roads. “He showed us a lot of compassion, a lot of sympathy, it warmed our hearts.” The young woman did not expect such enthusiasm. “In the passes I heard go India, while I did not necessarily know these people there!”
