(Sao Paulo) « Je crois que Saint-Exupéry aurait trouvé ça cool de voir son Petit Prince blanc aux cheveux blonds (joué par) un petit garçon noir à la coupe afro » dit Levi Asaf avant d’entrer sur scène.
Ce Brésilien de neuf ans aux yeux pétillants et au sourire ravageur est le premier acteur noir à incarner au théâtre dans son pays ce personnage mythique du grand classique de la littérature jeunesse, dans une comédie musicale à l’affiche depuis fin septembre à Sao Paulo.
Vêtu d’une culotte bouffante dorée et d’une blouse de matelot, il chante, danse et donne la réplique à l’aviateur, sans oublier bien entendu la phrase mondialement célèbre : « Dessine-moi un mouton ».
« En jouant le Petit Prince, je représente le peuple noir », insiste le jeune garçon né à Juazeiro, dans l’État de Bahia (nord-est), qui a beaucoup souffert du racisme à l’école.
« Je suis très fière de lui. Il ne s’est pas laissé abattre, alors que ses camarades le traitaient de “tête d’éponge”, voire pire », révèle sa mère Rosane Luiz Eloi.
« En 2019, j’ai eu un cancer et le voir garder la tête haute malgré le racisme m’a donné de la force pour lutter contre la maladie […] I hope it will also give strength to other black children who need opportunities, ”she adds.
