Some people can cool their homes when they have air conditioning, but air conditioning requires a lot of electricity. In Italy, a recent law prohibits the use of air conditioning below 25 degrees.
It is already between 30 and 35 degrees every afternoon in Rome, Italy. But this year, the Italians will have to moderate the use of air conditioning. Objective: to save energy, Russian gas in particular, which the government wants to do without. The new law is clear: it is forbidden to lower the thermostats below 25 degrees in all places open to the public, such as administrations, schools, universities and even some hotels.
In large establishments, the measure is already applied. Because the rooms are private spaces, then the law does not apply, any more than in the apartments of the private individuals. But the Romans seem ready to play the game. In Italy, one in two households is equipped with an air conditioner. That’s 24 million devices in all. In addition, some deputies want to make controls compulsory for individuals, but this measure is still being debated.
